Shamrock Rovers fans have been slammed after singing a song celebrating the death of the Queen during their Europa Conference League fixture against Swedish side Djurgardens.
The nation is in mourning following the death of Her Majesty The Queen after Buckingham Palace announced the news on Thursday evening, hours before Shamrock’s game kicked off.
However, a video has circulated of a group of the Irish side’s fans singing disrespectful chants towards the Queen.
The Shamrock fans can be heard to be singing ‘Lizzy’s in a box’, in reference to the death of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, who passed away at the age of 96, and the video has been viewed more than four million times.
Those in the stands can also be seen to be pumping their fists and clapping their hands during the video.
When contacted by Sportsmail, Shamrock Rovers denounced the ‘highly insensitive and callous chanting’.
A statement from the club said: ‘Shamrock Rovers F.C. has been made aware of chants by a group of individuals at last night’s game. Such highly insensitive and callous chanting is not acceptable at our club and is against the values that Shamrock Rovers F.C. stands for.
‘Our ground regulations issued on match tickets and on signage at entry strictly prohibits such activity.
‘This is also announced over the PA system before all of our games in Tallaght Stadium; “Shamrock Rovers Football Club welcomes all supporters to its grounds and condemns any form of bigotry and discrimination in soccer. Shamrock Rovers Football Club does not condone hostile abuse of individual players, spectators, or officials based on ethnic or cultural background, nationality, or religious affiliation. Those found to be involved in any such behaviour will face ejection from the ground and will be reported to the Gardaí.”‘

Another added: ‘Wow, I cannot comprehend what sick minds it takes to sing this.’
A further furious user said: ‘Although the Queen has sadly passed away, we can rest assured that her majesty’s final resting place will never be lower than s***** little clubs like Shamrock Rovers and their fans.’
Other users were quick to lambast the Irish side’s supporters.
A user said: ‘Imagine being this excited about the death of an old lady. Pathetic.’
Another added: ‘Shamrock Rovers tonight playing in Europe disgraceful chanting in the crowd’.
