A source at Sporting Lisbon has responded to claims that Ruben Amorim’s move to Manchester United is ‘done’.
Mail Sport reported on Wednesday evening that United are closing in on sealing the services of Amorim, 39, on a two-and-a-half-year deal to replace Erik ten Hag.
The Red Devils have agreed to pay Sporting £9.2million in compensation, with Amorim expected to join the club after November’s international break, and Ineos director Sir Dave Brailsford appeared to confirm the deal on Wednesday evening when he told fans outside Old Trafford said: ‘Yes. , it’s done’ after United’s 5-2 win over Leicester.
But an official Sporting source has insisted that an agreement is yet to be reached between the two clubs for Amorim, with Sporting yet to receive compensation for terminating the Portuguese boss’ contract, as reported by A Bola.
It is understood a deal is getting closer, with two of Amorim’s assistants, Carlos Fernandes and Adelio Candido, expected to join him at United, but a deal is yet to be finalised, according to reports in Portugal.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is expected to remain in interim charge of United’s next three games as they attempt to complete a deal for Amorim
With United still trying to wrap up their assault on Amorim, Ruud van Nistelrooy took charge of the team for their Carabao Cup tie against Leicester on Wednesday evening.
United put in a dominant performance in their first outing since Ten Hag’s dismissal as Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes both scored twice, while Alejandro Garnacho also got on the scoresheet.
The thirteen-time Premier League champions are through to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, where they will visit Tottenham after the North London club beat Manchester City 2-1 on Wednesday evening.
Having quickly turned their attention to Amorim following the decision to relieve Ten Hag of his duties, United looked set to get their man through the door in time for their league clash with Chelsea on Sunday.
However, Amorim will now remain at Sporting for the next three matches as his notice period with the club expires.
As a result, Van Nistelrooy is set to remain at the helm on an interim basis for United’s next three games against Chelsea, PAOK and Leicester.
Barring any setbacks, Amorim would officially start at Old Trafford after next month’s international break and be in position for his first game for United when they travel to Ipswich on November 24.
