Melanie ‘Mel C’ Chisholm lost almost her entire musical career to one drunken mistake.

The Sporty Spice, 48, shared details of that fateful night in her autobiography, Who I Am, which will be released across Australia on Tuesday.

The pressure was on for the group to become a huge global success, and Melanie’s antics, amid her depression and poor self-esteem, wouldn’t cut it.

After berating her group mate, Geri and Mel B promptly told her before their new manager Simon Fuller threatened to kick her out of the group.

In an excerpt from the memoirs obtained by the Daily TelegramMelanie wrote that she was terrified of losing her lifelong dream.

From then on, she changed her behavior and delved deep into a harmful mindset to please those around her.

She stopped standing up for herself, put her head down and just did as she was told, as they quietly sunk deeper into depression and a serious eating disorder.

“From the moment I got the flyer (in 1994) for the audition, being in the band was everything I ever dreamed of,” she said in her memoir.

Melanie also revealed that she had been sexually assaulted in a hotel the night before the Spice Girls’ first concert.
