Spencer Matthews paid a heartfelt tribute to late brother Michael on what would have been his 46th birthday on Monday.
Michael Matthews died in 1999 at the age of 22 while climbing Earth’s highest mountain, after becoming the youngest Briton to ever reach the summit.
Spencer, reenacting his His older brother’s steps on a mission to find his body for his Finding Michael movie with Disney+ last year took to Instagram to mark the occasion.
Alongside a black and white photo of his sibling, he wrote: “Today would have been my brother Michael’s birthday. He was an adventurous soul, full of heart and courage.”
‘We miss him. I hope my children inherit parts of its gentle, beautiful nature. I love you Mike, wherever you are.”

Spencer said he hoped his own children would inherit his older brother’s “kind, beautiful nature.”

Last year, the Made In Chelsea star shared a sweet photo of his son Otto, who bore a striking resemblance to his late brother Michael at the same age.
On Instagram, he posted the image of his youngest child next to a photo of Michael when he was about 12 months old.
Alongside the photo, Spencer wrote: ‘Mike and Otto at similar age…
‘Apart from Otto’s bigger mouth (which he obviously got from Vogue) I’d say they look quite similar!
“I already feel like our children have some of his friendly and adventurous nature.”
Michael’s body was never found and his family was never able to fully understand what happened to him.
Now streaming on Disney+, Finding Michael depicts Spencer’s emotional quest to find his late brother’s body, alongside adventurer Bear Grylls and record-breaking mountain climber Nirmal “Nims” Purja.

During the film, Spencer, who was just ten years old when his brother died, undertook a “heartbreaking” mission to climb Everest to find his brother’s body, retracing the “exact steps” his sibling took when he died.
Speaking on The One Show, Spencer said: ‘When Michael went missing, by the time some people realized he was missing it was too late. No one actually survives the night. A few cases maybe.”
Michael is said to have run into trouble when he began his descent down the southern descent through the ‘death zone’ on May 13, 1999, after spending about 20 minutes at the summit.
He was also the brother of the husband of Pippa Middleton, the driver turned hedge fund manager James Matthews, 47.
The veteran mountaineer, who had previously conquered Aconcagua, the Pyrenees and the Swiss Alps, was the 162nd person to die on Everest.
