Special effects makeup artist stuns fan with bizarre skincare ‘hack’ where she removes her cosmetics without using cleanser

A special effects makeup artist leaves people baffled with a bizarre skincare “hack” that peels off an entire face of glamor in one go.

Social media users were stunned and confused by a video by American influencer Tasha Caroline (@tasha_caroline_) removing her entire face of cosmetics as if it were a peel off mask.

The clip has now surfaced again Redditwhere it was posted with the caption, “If I forget to wash my face before bed.”

In it, the special effects influencer – who often creates intricate costume-like looks using SFX tools – wrote, “Skin care hack…..save thousands on unnecessary cleaning supplies.”

The footage, without the added text, comes from a TikTok by American influencer Tasha Caroline (@tasha_caroline_), posted in January 2022

The video begins with her piercing her lips with tweezers and pulling the area around them as she undoes her hard work by peeling off her makeup which looks like a second skin as it peels off.

Her post garnered more than 3.2 million likes as commenters expressed their horror and fascination with the trick.

And it seems that more than a year later, people are still surprised by the video.

“I’m a 37 year old female and I came to the comments to see if this is a thing or if it’s a fake,” one wrote. “It must be fake, right? Please tell me it’s fake!’

“I’m a 46-year-old woman and I’m confused and shocked,” a second agreed.

‘No. As a woman I have no idea how that happened,” added another. “I was actually scrolling through the comments to see if anyone else knew lol.

Another viewer commented, “Cool, it looks like one of those undercover spy agent masks.”

“That’s like Mission Impossible facemask style,” one wrote.

But — as suggested by a handful of eagle-eyed viewers — a makeup artist has confirmed that this isn’t something you can achieve with your classic foundation and setting spray.

In conversation with FEMAIL, MUA Olivia Todd (@oliviatoddmakeup) revealed that it is clear that the woman is well versed in special effects looks.

“This is a thin layer of silicone or liquid latex used in prosthetics that has hardened and functioned as an outer layer of skin for applying makeup,” the expert explained.

“This mimics the appearance of skin and effectively creates the illusion that it’s skin when makeup is applied.”

Olivia says the tell-tale is the area around her lips.

“This is sealed over the opening of the mouth,” she said. “Once the seal is broken and air gets into the layer, the layer will wrinkle and change.”
