Spain women’s coach Jorge Vilda’s entire coaching staff resigns in protest of FA president Luis Rubiales’ ‘unacceptable attitude and statements’ under fire

The entire coaching staff of Spain women’s coach Jorge Vilda has resigned over the behavior of Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales.

All eleven members of Vilda’s staff released a statement expressing their condemnation of Rubiales’ behavior and support for Jenni Hermoso.

Vilda, whose own future has been the subject of speculation after falling out with several players, is now the only member of the coaching staff still in their position.

“As a result of the events following the Women’s World Cup final, part of the women’s football team wants to make its position public,” the statement said.

“The undersigned express their strongest and most emphatic condemnation of the behavior of the President of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Manuel Rubiales Béjar, towards the player of the women’s national football team, Jennifer Hermoso.

“After the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, which took place on August 25, 2023, in which the president of the RFEF did not present his resignation and in which he offered a story that does not in any way reflect anything of Given the feelings of the aforementioned player, who has expressly stated that she feels “victim of aggression”, this part of the Technical Staff supports the player Jennifer Hermoso and endorses the version offered by her.

“Added to this is the inconvenience of necessarily having to be present at the aforementioned meeting on August 25, which, moreover, saw a particularly painful event for this coaching staff, as several female members of the coaching staff were forced to wear front row, their image expose it and try to make society and players understand it.

“For all these reasons, in light of the unacceptable attitude and statements made by the top leader of the RFEF, the undersigned have taken the decision to make their positions available to the RFEF.
