Southwest passenger and American Ninja Warrior star Maggi Thorne slams flight attendant for ‘SHAMING’ her for wearing SWEAT PANTS and a tank top – telling her to ‘cover up’ because outfit was ‘inappropriate’ and ‘too revealing’

A plane passenger wearing a tank top and high-waisted sweatpants has claimed she was ’embarrassed’ by a South West flight attendant who said her outfit ‘wasn’t appropriate’.

Maggi Thorne, 42, a three-time American Ninja Warrior competitor and track star from Lincoln, Nebraska, traveled last week from Omaha to Nashville, Tennessee, with a stop in Orlando, Florida.

While the first part of her trip went smoothly, she said that shortly after boarding her second flight, she was approached by an airline employee who told her that her ensemble — a little black crop top and pants — ” too revealing’ and that she would have to ‘cover up’.

A shocked Maggi refused to put on any more clothes, and although the flight crew agreed to let her fly with her outfit, she called the incident ‘incredibly embarrassing’.

A shocked Maggi refused to put on any more clothes, and although the flight crew agreed to let her fly with her outfit, she called the incident ‘incredibly embarrassing’.

“I was just in shock,” she said Insider. ‘(The flight attendant) came up to me and asked me about my outfit and said she thought it was too revealing and not appropriate for the airline. It was incredibly embarrassing.”

Southwest’s carriage agreement states that customers who wear “attire that is obscene, lewd or patently offensive” may be denied travel — but Maggi noted that her appearance did not fall into either of those categories.

She added that the airline employee later approached her to check in with her and confronted her about what had happened.

“I was just in shock,” three-time American Ninja Warrior competitor told Insider

“I told her I wasn’t doing well, and I don’t think she knew what to do,” Maggi explained. “I’m not a confrontational person, but what happened is not okay and someone needs to say something about it.”

“A @SouthestAir flight attendant just shamed me in front of passengers and said my attire wasn’t appropriate,” she wrote.

“A tank top and high-waisted pants. Will this really happen in 2023? The passengers around me were astonished when she made me heard for all to hear.”

Maggi shared a photo of her outfit and a short video of the alleged crew member who spoke to her.

Maggi told Insider that after speaking with Southwest via DM, she feels the airline handled the situation “dismissively” but did not share any details about what was said.

She said she asked what the company was doing to ensure something like this wouldn’t happen again, and then the representative “didn’t write back.” She has now filed a formal complaint.

In a follow-up tweet, Maggi explained that she told her story in the hope of preventing what happened to her from happening to others.

“I shared my experience with anyone who is ashamed of what they wear… a position that no one else has authority over,” she said.

‘I believe in the goodness that we all possess. It is unacceptable for anyone to publicly shame someone for their outfit (no matter who).”

Maggi’s story sparked a heated debate among X users, some of whom were outraged by the flight attendant’s actions and others who sided with her.

Some branded the flight attendant’s comments as ‘absurd’ and ‘ridiculous’, while someone else said she ‘went too far’.

“You look good,” one person wrote. Another said: ‘I don’t see anything wrong with her clothes. She is covered where needed.”

However, others claimed that Maggi’s top looked more like a ‘sports bra’ than a shirt.

“She’s wearing a sports bra, not a tank top,” one disgruntled user wrote. Another agreed: “I don’t consider a sports bra a tank top. Sports bras are fine for the gym, but not in public.”

“Put some clothes on,” someone else said. “It’s an airplane, not a gym.”

“I wouldn’t want to sit next to a man or woman wearing a tank top (or bra, in this case),” read another response.

“Cover your holes if you have to sit close to a complete stranger. That’s just basic courtesy.”

‘That’s not airplane clothing. Dress appropriately,” another person was hurt.

‘I am confused. Is this inappropriate/offensive?’ she asked, alongside a video showing off her appearance.
