Souths coach Jason Demetriou’s Labradoodle is ‘attacked by Jai Arrow’s dog’ – and it’s not the first time the Bunnies enforcer’s pets have got him into trouble

South Sydney’s Rabbitoh Jai Arrow’s dog reportedly attacked Labradoodle, his coach’s pet, just a year after the Origin attacker had to turn in another of his pets after it killed a greyhound.

Channel Nine rugby league reporter Danny Weidler revealed the incident on Twitter following a week of controversy at Redfern, which saw club legend Sam Burgess walk out as assistant coach.

The Rabbitohs season is on the line this week as they clash with old rivals Sydney Roosters for a spot in the NRL top eight.

It has been reported that Burgess and Demetriou fell out over the treatment of star players Cody Walker and Latrell Mitchell, while there have been other reports of unrest including a blown video session and Walker leaving practice.

As if it wasn’t bad enough for Jason Demetriou, his cavoodle was attacked by Jai Arrow’s dog during practice on Sunday. The bunnies observed a “bring your dog to work day.” We are told the dog is fine,” Weidler wrote.

Weidler then added, “UPDATE: JD has been in touch. The puppy is doing well. Labradoodle and not Cavoodle’.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have been contacted for comment.

Just days before the reported attack, Arrow had posted an image on social media of his two dogs, Rocky and Koda. It is still unclear which dog was involved in the incident.

‘Rocky was made to model, Koda and I not so much. We did our best,” said Arrow.

A number of teammates, including Damien Cook and Taane Milne, teased Arrow through the post, while former Rabbitohs support George Burgess posted “three trained killers” with a laughing emoji.

Burgess’ comment has since been removed.

“Welp, this has aged well,” one follower posted.

“As a great dog lover, the question unfortunately has to be asked… does this say anything about the dog owner if some of his dogs have behaved this way over the past three years?” asked another.

“What are you doing to make sure this one doesn’t grow up and kill other dogs?” wrote a third commenter.

The report comes nearly a year to the day Arrow was forced to surrender its American Staffordshire terrier Thor to be knocked down over a separate attack.

Thor was involved in two attacks last July, in which he mauled and killed an 11-year-old greyhound named Ruby in Bateau Bay on the NSW central coast.

Arrow was furious at the time.

“I think it’s an absolute shame they couldn’t even give me a heads up and at least give me the decency to go and say goodbye to him,” Arrow told Channel Nine.

Arrow’s comments came after his lawyer Paul McGirr attacked the “cowardly” council, before announcing they would “explore all legal avenues.”

“They (Central Coast Council) killed the dog on Friday and at 4:45pm on Friday they emailed me saying they would exercise their powers and they would kill the dog – but they had already done that,” McGirr said.

“We wanted to appeal the council’s decision to the Supreme Court and throughout the process we asked them not to do anything.

“We wrote further correspondence to (Central Coast Council) asking to be present, along with Mr Arrow, to explain the situation that Jai was not present near the dog during any of the alleged attacks.”

Social media commentators criticized Arrow at the time.

“Sadly this dog needs to be put to sleep. Devastating for Ruby and her family. This greyhound did not deserve this. Thor was abandoned,” one person posted.

“What a beautiful boy, quite a shame because he would be such a good dog with the right training,” another posted.

“If this guy wants to own these high maintenance dogs, he needs to be more responsible with training and control,” added another.

Arrow’s dog had previously been flagged as ‘dangerous’ by Waverly Council in eastern Sydney.

That move came after Arrow’s former teammate Liam Knight was walking Thor on Bronte Beach when the dog attacked Sydney resident Miniature Schnauzer Millie Kate Muir.

The owner was also injured, and the dog’s veterinary bills totaled about $10,000.

“We apologize to the family and dog for this incident,” Arrow said at the time.
