Southern Expressway crash: Adelaide grandfather killed in horror car pile-up

Tributes have poured in for a beloved grandfather who died in a horrific multi-vehicle crash that left loved ones “shattered”.

John Iordanis, 58, was driving his green Ford Falcon when the vehicle collided with three other cars and a truck on the Southern Expressway in Adelaide’s south about 4.50pm on Friday.

Christies Beach’s grandfather died at the scene. He was only five miles from home.

Friends and family are shocked by the passing of their beloved father, grandfather and colleague.

His stepdaughter Natalie Chown told Daily Mail Australia that he was a loving and caring person.

“We can’t put into words how sad we are,” she said.

Ms Chown added on Facebook: “You were there through all of life’s ups and downs. Our hearts are broken that you were taken so quickly.”

Others remembered Mr Iordanis as a kind man who was full of life.

“I will miss your cheeky smile, our conversations and our banter,” one person wrote.

“One of the best people I ever knew, always loved to laugh. Devastated when I heard the news,” wrote another.

Judy Pearson, who knew and worked with Mr Iordanis for 25 years, said she was still coming to terms with the tragedy.

“I was so shocked when I got the call last night,” she wrote.

‘[I] laughed a lot with you. You will be missed by so many people at work. I still can’t believe it.’

Police are investigating whether Mr Iordanis had a medical episode before the crash and whether this could have been a factor: 7 News reported.
