Southampton submit £17.5m bid for Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana

Southampton have made an offer of £17.5m for Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana.

The Ghanaian star has already been on the radar of some Premier League clubs, including the Saints’ relegation rivals Everton.

The Toffees had contacted the top-tier French side about a possible move earlier in the transfer window before sacking Frank Lampard.

Newcastle United were also interested but have since been put off by Rennes’ £40m valuation of the 20-year-old, who has 15 caps.

Sulemana only joined Rennes in the summer of 2021 from Nordsjaelland in Denmark, but is open to leaving the French side this month.

The player participated in the World Cup but only played just under an hour after two substitute appearances as he suffered an ankle injury before the tournament.

However, he left the Qatar finals as the fastest player, having reached a top speed of 35.5 km/h in a group stage match against Uruguay.

Sulemana has endured a frustrating season so far, as while he has featured 19 times in the campaign for Rennes, he has only been limited to one goal and two assists.

However, he has only played five cumulative games in those appearances, with just 492 minutes of playing time after struggling with his knee and ankle.

He has not been able to play more than half an hour at Rennes since September.
