Southampton have agreed a £12.3m fee with Racing Club for midfielder Carlos Alcaraz.

The 20-year-old will arrive for a medical on Tuesday after the clubs agreed on a deal that includes add-ons and a 15 per cent sale. They had an initial offer of £8.8m turned down over the weekend.

The Argentine, scorer of the winning goal in the 2022 Argentine Cup final against Boca Juniors, will sign a contract until 2027.

Alcaraz mainly plays in front of defense and would be a perfect fit for Jones’ team, as the club’s lack of central midfielders is a problem for Southampton.
