A 34-year-old father who was stabbed to death in an apartment building was visiting his paralyzed girlfriend for whom he was caring.

Adam Bockhodt was found dead after emergency services were called to the building on Surrey Rd in South Yarra, a Melbourne suburb, at 8pm Saturday.

Mr Bockhodt, who lived in the southeastern suburb of Ripponlea, was allegedly stabbed while standing in the doorway of his girlfriend’s flat in the council housing building that locals say is notorious for drug trafficking.

A 17-year-old man from Frankston in the southeast of the city is now assisting police with the investigation.

Mr Bockhodt, who acted as this wheelchair-bound girlfriend’s carer, was assisted by friends after the stabbing but died before paramedics could reach him.

Jorge Gamba, who lives in the South Yarra building, shared the Herald Sun the pair had a strong relationship.

“Adam was a good man,” he said.

“I have had many conversations with this handsome young fellow.

‘He was always friendly, always available to say hello. No one has ever had any complaints about him.’

Other residents expressed concern for Mr Bockhodt’s family.

One of them said she knows he has a child and a cat and expressed concern about who would take care of them.

Another resident said the building is full of drug dealers brazenly operating on two levels.

The resident said it is unsafe to go out after 4pm and claimed he had often reported incidents to police that went unresponsive.

Melbourne has seen a spate of alleged stabbings in the past week with four separate incidents.
