South Western Railway, JSW enters into an agreement for the transportation of iron ore

JSW Minerals Rail Logistics Private Limited invests Rs. 29.57 crore per rake.

South Western Railway (SWR) and JSW Minerals Rail Logistics Private Limited on Friday entered into an agreement to operate five special types of wagons with 'side discharge' arrangement for unloading, officials said.

It will be used to transport iron ore from Mineral Enterprises Ltd Siding, Sasalu and Swamihalli mines to JSW's steel plant at Tornagallu. This is in addition to the seven rakes for which an agreement was signed on October 17, they said.

In a statement, SWR officials said, “Total 12 BOBSNS rakes (Bogie open hopper wagons with bottom discharge facility to carry ballast ores) will be procured by JSW Minerals Rail Logistics Private Limited. The rake is manufactured by Titagarh Rail System Limited, Kolkata and The First rake is expected to be operational from April 2024.”

JSW Minerals Rail Logistics Private Limited invests Rs. 29.57 crore per rake. For each booking, the customer will be given a 10 percent discount on basic freight, the company said.

“Introduction of the BOBSNS wagon will alleviate the problems of unloading by means of a wagon tipper or manually. The capacity of this rake is 3.5 percent more than that of the 59 BOXN rake and it saves approximately two hours of unloading time per goods rake compared to regular BOXN rakes,” the statement added.
