South Australian truck driver lucky to be alive after tree branch smashes through his front windscreen during horror smash

A truck driver has narrowly escaped death after a giant tree branch smashed through his windscreen and almost impaled him.

The driver, 62, hit the side of his truck the Dukes Highway, west of Bordertown in SA, at 6am on Saturday.

The car collided with a tree next to a signpost, shattering the windshield where the pointed branch shot through, causing the driver minor injuries.

SA Police shared footage of the crash showing how close the incident came to being fatal.

The driver was taken to Bordertown Hospital by paramedics.

Social media users quickly instructed the lucky driver to buy a lottery ticket for his luck.

“Take a lottery ticket, but luckily it missed the driver,” one woman wrote.

“Good luck, the optimus on the other hand will need to be repaired,” another added.

Police are calling on all motorists to be careful on the road at all times.
