Former South African rugby star Lukas van Biljon was repeatedly stabbed in the chest and his father shot three times and was left for dead when six men attacked their farm at midnight.
Springbok prostitute Van Biljon, 47, was warned that if he fought back his tied up children would be killed as the gang ransacked the farm in Oranjeville, Free State province.
The controversial player – who was kicked out of the Boks after 13 caps in 2003 after yet another brawl in a nightclub – was stabbed several times as a ‘strong warning to behave’.
His father Andre, 70, had tried to radio desperately to fellow farmers for help, but was spotted and shot three times in the chest and hand and is in critical condition in hospital.
South African Police spokesman Captain Loraine Earle said two of the attackers were arrested after local farmers were alerted and put in place an action plan to block all roads.

She said: “Just after midnight on Saturday, police were called to a robbery at a small farm in Oranjeville owned by the Van Biljon family, in which two men were injured.
“It is alleged that six armed men entered the home and tied the children with zip ties and a 47-year-old man was stabbed and his 70-year-old father shot during the robbery,”
A farmer who knows the Van Biljon family well said: ‘Lukas is a big strong boy, but he couldn’t do anything because it was made clear that his children would be shot if he fought.
“He’s still been stabbed several times, but it’s Father Andre who’s worried, as he’s in intensive care in a very bad way from gunfire.”
The two arrested suspects are arraigned today at the Heilbron Magistrate’s Court on charges of domestic robbery and attempted murder, while the other four are still being hunted.
The former Sharks hooker made 13 appearances for the Boks between 2001 and 2003 with his first game against Italy and his last against New Zealand.

Farmers in South Africa are under constant threat of 333 brutal attacks, mainly farms across the country last year with 55 murders of men, women and children.
The attacks are usually highlighted by the brutality inflicted on female victims who are often raped and tortured with hot irons and power tools and boiling water, both men and women.
Most victims are mercilessly shot by stabbing and strangulation, the other common causes of death.
In South Africa there are 80 murders a day and over 120 rapes and the crime rate makes it one of the most dangerous countries in the world to live in with extremely low conviction rates.
