Sophie Turner has revealed the real reason she left the US amid her split from ex-husband Joe Jonas in a new tell-all interview.

The Game Of Thrones star, 28, has given a rare insight into her rollercoaster year, touching on homesickness and motherhood as she graced the cover of Harper’s Bazaar December and January issues.

Sofie, who is that? who was set to receive the coveted Performance Award at the 2024 Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards, finalized her divorce from 35-year-old Joe in September, just over a year after the singer filed for divorce. They got married in 2019.

The proceedings were delayed by an intense conflict between the two over custody agreements for their children, daughters Willa, four, and Delphine, two.

Before their marriage ended, Sophie, originally from Northampton, and her ex-husband Joe, 35, lived in America with their two daughters, but she was desperate to move back to Britain.

Putting the lid on the homesickness she was feeling, the Joan star said: ‘In every city we ended up in, the first thing I did was find a British shop and stock up on a month’s supply of chocolate…

Sophie revealed that gun violence and legal changes in the US were a major driver in her desire to return home.

She continued, “The gun violence, Roe v Wade being overturned… Everything just piled up.”

In June 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the 1973 Roe v Wade ruling, which guaranteed women the right to abortion up to the point of fetal viability, which is approximately 24 weeks.

Since moving back to Britain, Sophie has found success not only in her career with the drama Joan, but also in her personal life, moving on to date aristocrat Peregrine Pearson.

She recently went Instagram official with her boyfriend, aristocrat Peregrine Pearson, delighting fans.

On Sunday, she shared a photo of the couple kissing under a tent with others, showing them together on a tour boat, posing in a hot air balloon and skiing.

Speaking about her return, she said: ‘I’m so happy to be back. It felt like my life was on pause until I returned to England.

‘I just never really feel like myself when I’m not in London with my friends and family. I was away for so long – six years – and that was when my friends got engaged and when I got pregnant.

“I was having dinner with someone the other day and she said, ‘I’ve never been allowed to touch your stomach.’ We didn’t have those key experiences together.’

In the new photoshoot, Sophie put on a glamorous show in a black and white statement blazer, with a braless look underneath for her cover photo.

In other photos, the actress was seen cutting a racy figure as she showed off her legs in a sheer black and white polka dot dress.

She wore her blonde locks in voluminous, bouncy curls, before donning a smarter outfit: a breezy white shirt paired with a stylish wide-brimmed fedora.

Sophie’s character in Joan is a single mother trying to provide for her children in the new six-part crime series, and the actress reflected on her own experiences, admitting it has “changed her so much in every way.”

She explained: ‘Before I had children, I was very depressed and anxious, and isolated [myself] a lot of. Now I think I live my life for them. I want them to see that I have a social life, enjoy my work and thrive in my career and relationships.

“I want them to see a hard-working mother. I come back and say, ‘This is why Mom was gone. It’s because she’s doing this for you, so Santa can come with a big bundle of presents.”

Sophie has had a busy few months and recently played the real Joan ‘The Godmother’ Hannington, now 68, in her six-part film ITV crime series Joan.

The drama follows Joan as she escapes her abusive husband, but must accommodate her daughter once she gets back on her feet.

With no money and nowhere to live, she manages to get a job at a jeweler, where she steals her first diamonds.

Her life takes a turn for the better when she meets antique dealer Boisie, played by Harry Potter actor Frank Dillane, who takes her on as a partner in crime.

She will receive her Harper’s Bazaar gong at the awards ceremony on November 5, held in association with The Platinum Card By American Express.

Sophie admitted she got ‘carried away’ by emotions when filming ITV’s Joan, after kick-starting work on the series during her divorce from Joe.

Speaking about her starring role in Joan, Sophie told the publication: ‘I’ve never led a TV show before and I feel like it’s much more challenging than a big film like X-Men.

‘There are so many people behind it, so many opinions. They make all the decisions, and you just say, “Yeah, okay, whatever needs to be done.”

“Whereas with Joan I had so much say in it, and it was so collaborative… It feels like I’m letting go of something that’s very close to my heart.”

Sophie rose to fame in 2011 when she played the role of Sansa Stark in Game Of Thrones.

She remained on the show for its entire run and spent more than a decade on screen in the role.

The actress explained that she auditioned while still at school and her entire year group tried out.

She admitted: ‘I don’t know how it happened because my audition tape was absolutely horrific. But somehow they ended up casting me.”

“I went from 13 to 23 on that show – it was my whole childhood. We’re all still in a huge group chat and we try to meet up when we’re in the same country… they’re family.

‘At that age all I knew was that I wanted to act. I didn’t even think about my weight or what I looked like, it was just, “This is fun, I get to play every day.”

Commenting on the difficult side of finding fame at such a young age, Sophie added: ‘I learned how to look and act way too young.

“I think this is why child stars get so confused, because they’re not allowed to make mistakes and therefore they’re not allowed to grow…”
