“I mean, those were the worst days of my life,” she said Fashion recently. ‘There were days when I didn’t know if I would make it.

“I called my lawyer and said, ‘I can’t do this. I just can’t do it.’ I was just never strong enough to stand up for myself.

“And then, finally, after two weeks of being in a rut, she reminded me that it was my children I was fighting for.

“If someone says to me, ‘Do it for your children,’ I do it. I wouldn’t do it for myself, but I will find the strength for them.’

At the time, Sophie was in Britain filming TV show Joan, while Joe and their two daughters, Willa, four, and Delphine, one, were in the US.

‘I got a contract for another two weeks on set, so I couldn’t leave. My children were in the United States and I couldn’t reach them because I had to finish Joan. And all these articles started coming out…” the star continued.

After the news hit the internet, rumors swirled that Sophie had been unfaithful or that they had broken up because she was partying too much – especially after photos of her enjoying a night out with her costars only began circulating just days before Joe filed.

“It hurt because I was completely torturing myself with every move I made as a mother – my mother’s guilt is so real,” Sophie continued.

“I kept having to say to myself, ‘None of this is true. You’re a good mother and you’ve never been a partier.’

‘It’s unbelievable how many people make up a story and hang it based on a photo.

‘A picture may say more than a thousand words, but it is not my story. It felt like I was watching a movie of my life that I hadn’t written, produced or starred in. It was shocking. I’m still in shock.’

During her interview with Vogue, Sophie also admitted that she suffered from “depression and anxiety.”

‘I’m not very good at processing my emotions. I lock them up and then in a few years they will bubble up into some form of depression or anxiety,” she said.

“As a young girl, especially growing up in the spotlight, you really judge yourself.”

She revealed that while she had taken medication for her anxiety and depression in the past, she was not currently taking any.

“Not since I moved back to Britain,” she added. ‘That is nice and also surprising, because I expected that I would need that – now perhaps more than ever.

“There’s something about community and a support system that I never realized was so important until now.

“And I think the reason I was on medication for so long is because I didn’t have those people with me.

‘Now that I’m back home, I’m actually the happiest I’ve been in a long time. I’m starting over, rediscovering what I like to do, who I like to be with.’

Joe and Sophie started dating in 2016, and he proposed a year later; They then eloped to Las Vegas in 2019, followed by a lavish wedding party in France.
