Sophia Loren is on the mend again, almost two weeks after undergoing emergency surgery to repair ‘serious fractures’ following a fall at her home.
The 89-year-old actress fell in the bathroom of her home in Geneva, Switzerland on September 24.
Loren suffered “severe fractures” to several parts of her hip, including her femur, which required “urgent surgery,” her agent Andrea Giusti said.
Giusti offered a new update to People on Thursday, revealing, “Everything is going well. At least a few months of rehabilitation are needed.”
The legendary actress’ rep added that her two sons, Carlo Ponti Jr., 54, and Edoardo Ponti, 50, are both by her side as she recovers.

News of her fall was shared on her restaurant’s Instagram page, revealing that she suffered fractures from a fall.
‘A fall at her home in Geneva today caused Ms Loren to fracture her hip. Having undergone surgery with a positive outcome, she will now have to observe a short recovery period and follow a path to rehabilitation,” the statement began.
“Fortunately, everything went well and the Lady will return to us very soon,” the statement added.

The actress celebrated her 89th birthday on September 20 and earlier that month she appeared at the 80th Venice International Film Festival.
Italian journalist/critic Giuseppe Fantasia said Loren was “very lively” during her performance at the festival.
‘You can tell she loves these events, she is very happy with them. She carried herself extremely well. People were very excited to see her. She had quite the appeal,” Fantasia added.
Another person who encountered Loren at the festival said she “looked absolutely fine,” adding, “probably had the biggest audience around her during the show.”

Sophia would open a fourth branch of her restaurant chain in Bari, Italy, shortly after the accident.
The Italian native was also scheduled to receive honorary citizenship from the city, although that event and her other upcoming public appearances were canceled.
Sophia last appeared in the 2020 Netflix film The Life Ahead, directed by her son Edoardo, which earned her a David di Donatello Award for Best Actress. Sophia plays a Holocaust survivor who bonds with a 12-year-old Nigerian immigrant.
