Sophia Bush recalls TERRIFYING paranormal experience while living with Austin Nichols in ‘creepy haunted apartment’: ‘We both started to scream!’
Sophia Bush recalls her terrifying paranormal experience living in a ‘creepy haunted apartment’ with ex Austin Nichols.
The One Tree Hill star, 41, who is now dating football star Ashlyn Harris, was in a relationship with Nichols, 43, for six years until 2012, with the actor taking on the role of Julian Baker in the series to get close to be her.
Bush told the Drama Queens podcast that the couple witnessed an apparent ghost in their bedroom at their apartment in Wilmington, North Carolina, where the show was filming.
She said: ‘When we were able to date well because we were living in the same city for the first time in ten years. We were sleeping and this was when I had that creepy apartment. I just knew it was haunted.
“I hear this noise (one night) and it wakes me up… it’s in the floor. I turn on the light and Austin looks at me and says, “What is that noise?” We both start walking towards it. A ball the size of a volleyball pops out of the floor.

‘We both start screaming. The two of us jumped up and ran. This thing went from round to high and then evaporated.”
She added that she was “so happy that Austin was with her,” saying, “We still say, ‘Wasn’t that so weird?’ It’s nice to know we’re not crazy.’
The star also opened up about her romance with Austin, saying: ‘In the early days of our show (One Tree Hill) we were all partners, and then very publicly I wasn’t” (referring to her divorce from husband Chad Michael Murray in 2006)
‘The first date I went on was with a really sweet guy called Austin Nichols when I was 23. We dated for years.”
She said he joined One Tree Hill after telling her he “wasn’t going to let them tell her they can’t date because the long distance was too hard.”
‘Bold, beautiful, romantic gesture. We laugh about it all the time. We’re still good friends.’
This comes as she was spotted romancing Ashlyn, 38.
The women reportedly “love being together” and “love sports and want to do good in the world,” an insider said. American weekly on Thursday.

New romance: Sophia’s revelation comes when she is spotted by romantic football star Ashlyn Harris, 38
“It’s only been a few weeks since their first official date, but things already feel very natural between them,” the insider said of the couple, who were spotted on an outing in Santa Monica, California, last week.
Another insider told the outlet that University of Southern California alum first crossed paths with Harris in June at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in Cannes and sparks flew.
Both women are emerging from divorce from their husbands. Sophia split from her husband of 13 months, Grant Hughes, 42, in August, while Ashlyn and her wife and fellow footballer Ali Krieger split earlier this month after four years of marriage.
Sophia posted a cryptic Instagram post at the time.
“Sometimes you have to remind yourself that you are something special,” Bush wrote. ‘That you cannot be replaced. Your heart, your mind, your conversation, your care, it cannot be replaced. By anyone.”
Bush and Harris “bonded after breaking up and having to start over,” the source said. “Sophia and Ashlyn insist they were just friends, but it was instant chemistry in every way.”
