Sony Xperia 1 VI leak reveals new camera app and more features borrowed from Alpha cameras
A wealth of information has been leaked about the Sony Xperia 1 VI, revealing almost everything there is to know about the smartphone. Specifications, camera array, features; You name it and it’s probably there. According to news site MSPowerUserThe device is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset plus a 5,000mAh battery that is said to last two days on a single charge. There is an OLED display on the front. It’s not known exactly how big the screen will be, but it’s said to have a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, which is smaller than the Xperia 1 V’s 21:9 aspect ratio.
As impressive as these specs are, the real star of the show is the software. MSPowerUser claims that Sony is combining its Photography Pro, Videography Pro and Cinema Pro apps into one handy tool. The report points out that this is a move apparently “inspired by (the company’s own) Alpha series cameras.”
Like the Alpha line, the Xperia 1 VI could get human pose estimation technology, giving it the ability to focus on people even when they are standing away from the lens or hidden. Sony apparently even has plans to introduce an app called Video Creator, which will simplify the video production process and help users create content.
Camera upgrade
Previous leaks suggested that Sony wouldn’t be making any changes to the Xperia 1 V’s camera system. It turns out that might not be the case. MSPowerUser doesn’t say how many megapixels the main wide-angle camera will have. However, they do say that it will have a 24mm lens backed by an “Exmor T for mobile stacked CMOS image sensor.” This makes the camera behave as if it had a 48mm lens with 2x optical zoom.
In addition, there is an ultra-wide-angle camera with a 16mm lens and a telephoto option with a 95 to 170mm lens. The latter is capable of 7x zoom. MSPowerUser also mentions how the company claims that photos taken with the Xpera 1 VI’s main lens will rival those taken with one of their full-size cameras.
Notable features
In addition to the camera array, the report states that the smartphone will feature a wide range of audio-enhancing software, including support for the DSEE Ultimate upscaler. Company developers are improving the device’s speakers so they can better deliver “bass and clarity.”
Return to the screen. Sony can implement several gaming-oriented features. Chief among these is the 240Hz touch scan speed, which ensures fast response times. Gamers can also activate FPS Optimizer to keep the frame rate high in the game. Any hardware is likely causing the phone to get hot. To keep it cool, the Xperia 1 VI is said to have a vapor chamber.
The images you have seen are from the user MysteryLupin on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) who recently posted a series of photos that they claim are of the new phone. The interesting thing about the set is that all the files match the images in MSPowerUser’s report, so Lupine’s message could be legitimate. Of course, you should take everything you read here with a grain of salt. Things can always change. The publication says the phone “will launch on May 17.” No word on how much it will cost.
