Sony just dropped a free online video editor for content creators
>
Individual content creators now have access to professional creative tools as Sony unlocks its Creator Cloud platform for everyone.
Formerly reserved for the media and entertainment industry, the collection of cloud-based apps, including one Photo editor and online video editing softwareis now available to small teams and individual creators “interested in leveraging the efficiencies and opportunities the cloud offers,” according to the Japanese company.
While the initial offering is small, the company hopes to add tools and features based on user feedback.
What is Sony Creator Cloud?
Launched in September 2022, the Creator Cloud suite for business users offers a host of cloud applications for photographers, editors, and designers.
With a firm belief that “the lines between hardware and software, online and offline are becoming increasingly blurred with the capabilities of the cloud,” said Sony, the platform enables users to invest in a single hub for web-based apps. With Adobe’s recent investment in Cloud-to-Camera technology and the upcoming release of browser-based versions of apps such as PhotoshopSony apparently sat up and took notice.
New users will find that the hub is filled with a range of AI-powered apps and tools. However, most require a payment or subscription.
At the top of the bill is Master Cuts – a free video editing software tool currently in beta launched along with the next generation platform. It is a tool best suited to prepare footage to be enhanced in a full-fledged video editor. In addition, Catalyst Browse/Prepare for playing and editing videos and associated Adobe Premiere Pro plug in.
Photographers seem well served with one Lightroom alternative RAW photo processor for uploading, editing and managing images. Remote camera control is also supported.
As expected, Sony customers will get more benefits. Owners of specific Sony cameras get 25 GB free cloud storage for their media, while a 5GB cloud storage limit applies to all others.
