Sony announces Helldivers 2, which is now a third-person shooter

Hero Diversthe 2015 top-down shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios, is getting a sequel.

Announced during the PlayStation Showcase 2023, hell divers 2 keeps the Starship Troopers-style tone of the original game intact as the perspective changes to a third person.

The trailer is heavy on atmosphere, featuring a crazy promotional video about Super Earth, where the normal citizen lives, and the Helldivers protecting them by traveling across the galaxy to wipe out insect-like aliens.

hell divers 2 lets players team up with up to three others in a co-op shooter where players battle waves and waves of pesky alien bad guys. Per a message from developer Arrowhead Game Studios on the PlayStation blog, hell divers 2 aims to maintain the frenetic bombast of the arcade-style original by allowing players to wield ridiculously devastating support weapons. Arrowhead writes:

“In the heat of battle and your team needs to take out a massive Terminid attack in one fell swoop? You can drop an eagle with a 500 kg bomb, leaving only freed carcasses. Do you need to build a defensive perimeter? You can use the anti-personnel mines to cover the battlefield with deadly mines.’

hell divers 2 will launch in 2023 on PS5 and PC.
