Son’s shocking act after he killed his own mum with a pot plant in Australia
A man who threw a potted plant at his elderly mother’s head and killed her while suffering from heroin withdrawal has been found guilty of her murder.
David Andrew Mapp threw the factory at 82-year-old Colleen Wilson during an argument at her Tumbi Umbi home on the NSW Central Coast on July 28, 2022.
The 59-year-old was found guilty of murder in the NSW Supreme Court on Thursday.
During his trial, the jury heard that Mapp told police he tried to revive his mother for about eight hours before calling triple zero.
After Mrs. Wilson’s death, he pawned her television and Whipper Snipper for $200, which he used to buy heroin.
She was previously forced to pay $700 to get her TV back after her son pawned it.
Mapp claimed he did not intend to kill his mother but suffered from severe anxiety and heroin withdrawal symptoms, an argument rejected by the jury.
His previous guilty plea to manslaughter was overturned by prosecutors.
His defense said he had been using heroin since he was 16 years old and relied on his mother for support.

They said he had been unable to control his actions at the time of the murder because he was suffering from heroin withdrawal symptoms and generalized anxiety disorder.
Immediately after killing his mother, Mapp swallowed 10 Valium tablets.

The case will come before Judge Ian Harrison on February 5, when a date for a sentencing hearing will be set.
