Sonny Bill Williams has received an intense response from fans for sharing another message from woman-hating social media influencer Andrew Tate, who is currently in jail awaiting trial on alleged sex trafficking offences.

Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested in December on suspicion of rape and human trafficking in Romania, and remain in custody after two women were allegedly held against their will and forced to create paid pornography.

They have been held in jail for three months, but have not yet been charged.

Williams, a former NRL champion and All Blacks footballer and heavyweight boxer, received a huge reaction online on March 7 when he first retweeted a message from Tate.

He wrote ‘Amen’ in response to a comment Tate shared on his social media saying: ‘Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear.’

Ameen is the Islamic version of the ‘amen’ of Christianity.

The retired football legend has now doubled down and has done it again by sharing another of Tate’s posts.

The former professional boxer took to Twitter on Wednesday from his cell in Romania to post: “If Allah intends to do good to someone, then he afflicts them with trials.”

Williams, who has nearly a million followers on the platform, shared the post with a ‘100’ emoji.

Once again, he was criticized by his fans, who are surprised that the New Zealand sports icon is showing their support for Tate.

Please say that it is not so. You have always been a good example of non-misogynistic masculinity. Think about what this looks like for all the children and young people who look up to you,” wrote an outraged Twitter user.

‘How many concussions have you had?’ commented another.

‘Andrew Tate has a long and verified record of trafficking, violent abuse of women and misogynistic views. He is not someone I would withdraw or align myself with. He is abusing Allah for his own interests and means, not because he is committed to the faith,” wrote a third.

Williams received a series of angry responses after sharing Tate’s posts for a second time.

‘Poor tweet SBW – if you don’t know who it is then it’s not so bad. If you know him he is a tweet that will make you lose a lot of respect,’ another commented.

“My brother brother in Islam, please don’t listen to this guy until he really repents for his transgressions,” said another follower.

Williams’ recent tweet is the third time she has publicly endorsed Tate online.

On March 3, he shared a video posted by a Tate supporter, accompanied by a love heart and ‘praise’ emoji, calling for the brothers to be released from jail using the hashtag ‘#FreeTheTates’.

Khoder Nasser, Williams’ longtime manager, told a New Zealand news outlet Stuff that he was not aware of the allegations against Tate or Williams’ recent tweet.

‘I’ll look. I know Sonny doesn’t support certain things,’ she said.

Let me get down to business and let me see what’s going on.
