The man who stabbed his own father to death while suffering from a serious mental illness will be locked up in full custody after his condition clearly deteriorated.
Cy Walsh, 34, murdered his father, former Adelaide Crows coach Phil Walsh, in July 2015.
The courts ruled that Cy was mentally incompetent with undiagnosed schizophrenia at the time of the shocking attack and the state has since held Mr Walsh in a secure psychiatric facility.
In 2021 he was allowed to leave the facility for unsupervised day trips to Adelaide, but on Wednesday Judge Anne Bampton revoked that provision over concerns about Cy’s mental stability.

She instituted a six-month assessment period to assess Cy’s mental state, with a hearing scheduled for April 9, 2024.
Lawyer Trish Johnson, appearing for Cy, did not object to the order but noted there was no suggestion her client had breached or violated any term of the provision.
“I would ask Your Honor for permission to contact the Chambers and request early listing if his mental health stabilizes sooner than six months,” she said.
The Crown did not object to Ms Johnson’s request.
Phil Walsh was 55 years old when he died.
Cy lives in the secure James Nash House facility in Adelaide’s north.
He appeared in the Adelaide High Court via video link wearing a surgical mask over his face.
