Son kept the body of his dead 101-year-old father in a freezer for 18 months to talk to him

Son kept his dead 101-year-old father’s body in his freezer for 18 months ‘so he could still talk to him’

  • Investigators are trying to find out when exactly the man would have died
  • His son said he kept the body in his freezer because he ‘didn’t want to lose it’

A man has told police he stored his 101-year-old father’s body so he could “talk to him” after officers discovered the body in his freezer.

Dutch police said the body had been in a cold store since the man’s death 18 months ago.

The Limburger reported the dead man’s doctor had expressed concern about his missing patient and alerted police who later found the body in the home in Landgraaf he shared with his son, 82.

While the son is under investigation for concealing his father’s body, police said they do not suspect foul play and have not made an arrest.

The son, who has not been named, explained his actions and said, “I didn’t want to lose him. Otherwise I would miss him.’

Investigators are still trying to understand how and when the father might have died.

The exact time of death will be important in determining any fraud opportunities.

The eighty-year-old told 1 Limburg that his father had died of natural causes a year and a half earlier.

The doctor confirmed he had not heard from his patient for “months” and considered it suspicious before contacting the police.

Officials visited the house again on Monday afternoon, claiming the house was a ‘junk’ and giving the son a week to clean up before assessing whether he could continue to live independently.

In February, police in Poland found an elderly man, named only Marian L, living with his dead and mummified mother, whom he had dug up from her grave and laid on the living room couch for 13 years.

For more than a decade, he allegedly sat talking to the body at their home in the small town of Radlin, in southwestern Poland.

The corpse was found when the 76-year-old’s estranged brother-in-law decided to visit the home.

Police determined that “it is likely that the man exhumed and then mummified the mother’s body immediately after burial and that the body has remained in this house since 2010.”

Either way, the body was apparently in “perfect condition.” His mother would be reburied.

Police said Marian L had been charged with desecrating a corpse.
