NFL teams across the country chose hilarious ways to mark the eclipse, with the likes of Aaron Rodgers and Jalen Hurts starring in comedic social media posts.
During the Great American Eclipse, the moon will block the sun for more than 180 million people on Monday The Pacific coast of Mexico, all the way through 15 US states to the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
Millions of people will gather to catch a glimpse of the rare phenomenon, and NFL teams took the chance to celebrate the occasion — and remind their fans how to stay safe.
The New York Jets posted a photo on X showing Aaron Rodgers wearing sunglasses. It was accompanied by the caption: ‘eclipse ready’.
The Giants, meanwhile, posted a short clip on social media showing the moon blocking out the sun – with a twist.
“Do not look directly at the solar eclipse, too sexy for your eyes,” the Giants wrote. However, once the moon passed over the sun in the video, it illuminated the face of Dexter “Sexy Dexy” Lawrence II.
In Dallas, the Cowboys uploaded a photo of tight end Jake Ferguson wearing eclipse glasses, while the Eagles posted a photo of Jalen Hurts in sunglasses.
“Don’t forget your safety glasses this afternoon,” the Philadelphia report said. In addition to Hurts, the post also included a photo of SpongeBob SquarePants, with one of the character’s eyes burning.
The Colts got into the spirit by posting a photo of a family looking up at a sun covered by center Ryan Kelly and guard Quenton Nelson.
“They can block everything,” the message read. Meanwhile, in Chicago, the Bears uploaded a photo of Jaylon Johnson, Zacch Pickens and Jaquan Brisker – all wearing dark sunglasses.
“Pull up to watch the solar eclipse,” read the caption. Below, the team added a hilarious disclaimer: ‘(please do not stare at the sun without ISO certified eclipse glasses)’
The Lions used the solar eclipse as an excuse to post a hype video featuring wide receiver Amon-Ra St Brown’s best bits. “Cover the Sun (check),” the team wrote. ‘Cover @amonra_stbrown (X).’
