Sol Campbell wants the Premier League to officially honor Arsenal’s incredible ‘Invincibles’ season and claimed Manchester United and Liverpool would receive more recognition if they had achieved the same feat.

The upcoming end of season marks the 20th anniversary since the Gunners became the only team in English football to remain unbeaten all season as they lifted the Premier League title.

Arsenal successfully battled their way through 38 top-flight games without being beaten on their way to the title, with no team able to repeat their stunning feat since.

Former manager Arsene Wenger was presented with a gold Premier League trophy in recognition of the achievement when he left the club in 2018, but club legend Campbell said it was ’embarrassing’ that the players had also received no special awards.

“It’s the only time this has been done in a hundred years and I really believe if Manchester United or Liverpool had done it it would have gotten more recognition,” an irritated Campbell told Arsenal’s website.

‘It’s really embarrassing that the players never received anything like this.

“Maybe we’ll do that this year for the anniversary, but something has to be done.”

Campbell became an instant Arsenal icon after joining the club from arch-rivals Tottenham in 2001 and going on to win two Premier League crowns with the Gunners.

The former England international made a total of 211 appearances for the Gunners in two separate spells at the club and claims his resilience made him the ‘best defender in the world’ at one stage of his career.

The 49-year-old believes his experience of dealing with Spurs fans who branded him ‘Judas’ for making the move to London only got the best out of him when he later starred under Wenger.

“I have a big heart and broad shoulders and my courage was so great that it brought out the best in me,” he continued.

‘My character suited this scenario. I was laser focused. I was a different person on the field.

“That’s why at one point I became the best defender in the world, pound for pound,” Campbell added.
