Sofyan Amrabat is a ‘make do and mend’ deal, says Ian Ladyman, while Erik Ten Hag gets his man £8m on loan to a Fiorentina midfielder… with a £21m buy option
Sofyan Amrabat is a ‘make do and mend deal’ says Ian Ladyman before the Moroccans An £8 million loan from Fiorentina.
Including a £21 million purchase option, Erik ten Hag has held his own in securing the midfielder.
Speaking on the Transfer Deadline Special, Ian Ladyman called the move a ‘make do and mend’ deal.
“It’s something you do on the last day of the transfer window because something else has failed,” he added.
“You suddenly realize that there is a gap in your team. I personally don’t understand.’

“Anyone who has watched Manchester United in the last five years will tell you there hasn’t really been a top-class midfielder there.”
Scott McTominay and Fred were ‘not at Man United level’, according to Ladyman.
McTominay has been linked with a move to Fulham as they sought a replacement for Joao Palhinha during his links with Bayern Munich.

Mail Sport understands that Fiorentina would rather have seen an obligation than an option to buy.
However, it is clear that a substantial loan fee of £8 million was considered a reasonable compromise.
The Morocco international emerged as the Red Devils’ number 1 target in midfield and the club now look close to getting their man.
The Red Devils have secured a loan of £8 million and their deal includes the option to buy Amrabat for £21 million at the end of the season.

Erik ten Hag told the press that his team is ‘ready to fight’ after their transfer activities
This comes after Manchester United director of football negotiations Matt Hargreaves flew to Italy to seal the deal for Amrabat.
Mail Sport understands that the option to buy Amrabat must be activated in May, and if United does not exercise it, there will be room for maneuver for Fiorentina before Amrabat’s contract expires.
When asked how he feels about the strength of his Man United squad after the deal for Amrabat, Ten Hag told the press: “I think we’ve done good business.
“We have put together a strong team and are ready for battle.”
Ten Hag has finally held his own, despite tough negotiations with Serie A all summer.
Fiorentina chairman Rocco Commisso revealed they would let the Moroccan leave, provided the deal was right for the club.
“We told Amrabat that if he gets the chance to leave, we will let him go,” he said.
“If this deal doesn’t come through, he has two years left on his contract and he will stay.
“There are a lot of negotiations going on. I don’t want to name names. So wait 24 hours, then you will know what happens.’
