Sofia Richie and Elliot Grainge pay touching tribute to his late mother in name of their new baby daughter
Sofia Richie and her husband Elliot Grainge paid tribute to his late mother on behalf of their newborn daughter, who arrived on Monday.
Elliot is the son of eminent music mogul Sir Lucian Griange and his first wife Samantha Berg, who tragically died in 2007.
While giving birth to Elliot in 1993, Samantha suffered an amniotic fluid embolism, resulting in a coma in which she remained for fourteen years until her death, according to a profile by Sir Lucian in the Financial times.
Last Friday, Sofia, 25, revealed she has welcomed her first child – and the baby’s name is a touching reminder of Samantha.
Posting a photo of the little girl’s feet in Sofia and Elliot’s hands, the new mom revealed that her daughter Eloise’s name is Samantha Grainge.

Sofia, whose father is Lionel Richie, gushed in her caption: ‘Eloise Samantha Grainge 5×20×24 best day of my life,’ and tagged the photo to photographer Emma Bassill.

Just days before Eloise was born, Lionel candidly admitted that Sofia was becoming increasingly anxious leading up to her due date.
“My baby is having a baby now, what’s going on? “Elliot and Sofia are about to have a nervous breakdown, but I told her to calm down,” he told Extra.
‘I say, ‘When the baby comes, you might have a nervous breakdown!’ It’s just a great time!’ said Lionel, who is a father of three children.
“Of course, let me tell you something, we all love it. I’m over the moon and trying to stay calm. I’m just so excited,” the crooner added. ‘I’m sure this will be the adventure of a lifetime for them!’
He reflected, “I’m watching my baby have a baby. Yes! I mean, that just scared me a little bit. But at the same time, Elliot and Sofia are such a force. This little baby is going to be performed like you’ve never seen before. It is awesome.’
Sofia, whose sister is Nicole Richie, joyfully announced her pregnancy in January and revealed she and Elliot were expecting a girl.

She and Elliot married in the south of France in April 2023, in a stunning ceremony at the glamorous Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes.
“She’s growing pretty fast, then [the due date] It’s kind of up in the air,” she said Fashionadding that the baby would likely be born as a Gemini.
‘We both really thought it was a boy, so it was a real shock. My dream in life is to have a daughter [though]and Elliot is also really excited about a girl,” she explained.
“I think it’s so typical for boys to want boys, but he has a lot of sisters. It was really sweet,” Sofia added glowingly. “He’s very sensitive.”
