Social security collapses: Online and physical services hit by nationwide outage
The personalized social security services are not available today due to an IT hardware problem.
The outage appears to have hit the financial assistance program around 4 a.m. this morning, affecting online and in-person services that allow you to check your Social Security information.

According to the website, users began reporting outages around 4 a.m., with the number of reports peaking around 10 a.m. Downdetectora site that monitors online services.
“We continue to answer general questions by phone through our 800 number and in our local offices. Today, our offices are closed for in-person service,” the program’s website reads.
‘We are doing everything we can to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and apologize for the inconvenience.’
The outage affects more than 64 million Americans who have registered for a secure personal account on the My Social Security portal.
