Social media goes wild over proposed ‘change’ to Nine’s flagship current affairs show A Current Affair

A Current Affair viewers have gone into hysterics over a funny proposed change to Channel Nine’s flagship current affairs programme.

A satirical post was shared on Instagram by Double Bay Today, joking that the famous Australian show would be renamed ‘A Karen Affair’ in honor of the audience.

They claimed that the show’s current host, Allison Langdon, would be replaced by “a real Karen” – a slang term used to describe an entitled or demanding middle-aged woman.

The satirical news announcement poked fun at those who regularly watch ACA loyally, saying the change was “simply aimed at our existing audience.”

The tongue-in-cheek post featured a hilarious mock-up of the “new” ACA logo and host, “local coupon enthusiast Karen O’Neill.”

In a savage swipe at ACA, the caption hilariously quipped: “Starting next week, ACA will be known as AKA, or ”A Karen Affair”.

“The show’s editorial direction is expected to focus exclusively on the issues affecting white, Volvo-driving women between the ages of 40 and 60 who live in three-bedroom houses in the suburbs.”

They also shared fictional quotes from Rick Myer – a fictional character whose name was apparently inspired by real-life former Network 10 producer Rick Maier.

It proved to be an overwhelming moment for the A Current Affair host as she took to the stage to accept the award

One read: “Our show is popular among white, middle-aged, entitled women who complain a lot to the store clerks.”

ACA viewers quickly took to the comments section to share their hilarious reactions to the satirical news announcement.

One joked: “As Karen I second this,” while another commented: “I’d like to speak to the manager of Nine.”

A third commented: ‘Hilarious’, and a fourth joked: ‘Checks out.’

Allison recently responded to criticism from people who “don’t like” ACA while accepting an award at the 2024 Logie Awards.

She was recognized for her presenting role earlier this year when she won the Silver Logie for Best News or Public Affairs Presenter.

She beat ABC’s David Speers and Sarah Ferguson, Channel Nine’s Liz Hayes and Peter Overton and Seven’s Michael Usher to take home the prized gong.

During her acceptance speech, Allison paid tribute to her predecessor Tracy Grimshaw and hit back at people who “didn’t like” the news program.

“To trace who I love, she’s the one who always said the people who don’t like our show don’t know our show,” she said.

‘To Mike Munro, Ray Martin and thank you to everyone who played this role.”

When Allison took home the award in August, she also said she puts her “heart and soul” into her work, sharing her pride in taking home the Silver Logie.

‘When you hear everything [the nominees]”You certainly don’t expect yours to be the one called,” she began.

‘Everything we do, we do with heart and soul. If a story doesn’t have heart and soul, we just don’t do it.

“I look at those who sat in this chair before me, back at my father-in-law [Mike Willesee] who started this show.

“It would have been wonderful if he could have seen the family bond and where that took place.”

Allison joined the Nine Network program in early 2023 after leaving the Today show after a three-year stint.
