Social media RIPS into Arsenal after defeat handed Man City the Premier League title

‘Arsenal crumbling!’: Social media RIPS in the Gunners after defeat to Nottingham Forest gave Man City the Premier League title… as fans point out the ‘eight points lead’ Mikel Arteta’s side once had

Arsenal have been labeled ‘bottlejobs’ by social media users after their defeat at Nottingham Forest gave Manchester City the 2022-23 Premier League title.

The Gunners have long been in the title race with Pep Guardiola’s side and appeared to be in a strong position to claim the top prize a few weeks ago.

Mikel Arteta’s side had an eight-point lead in March, but after a series of poor results in recent weeks, they were overtaken by eventual winners City.

The title race came to an end on Saturday night when the Gunners suffered a 1-0 defeat to Forest meaning they – mathematically speaking – cannot overtake City.

And in the aftermath, social media users were quick to tear into Arteta’s side, suggesting they had “crumbled” under the strain of their altercation.

On a video TikTok went viral mainly because it showcased a collection of memes mocking the Gunners’ performances at the end of the season.

One of the photos showed a ‘Jammie Dodgers’ pack edited to say ‘Title Dodgers’ and had an Arsenal logo added to the front.

At the bottom of the pack, it reminded fans that the Gunners were “eight points ahead” just a few weeks ago.

Another referred to Arsenal’s Amazon Prime documentary showing their 2021-22 campaign. It was called “All or Nothing,” but fans edited the image to say “It All Came to Nothing.”

The next image showed a Prime energy bottle. The popular drink, founded by YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul, partnered with the Gunners in July last year.

British star KSI claimed that if Arsenal won the league, Prime would release a limited edition drink with the Gunners branding on it.

However, since they haven’t claimed the title, we won’t be seeing it appear. But some fans were quick to edit an image of the Arsenal-branded Prime drink and suggested it was a “bottlejob edition.”

Another meme showed an apple crumble and had the club’s logo edited onto it before being named ‘Arsenal crumble’.

The final image showed a processed beer can called ‘Surrender Ale’. It suggested the drink was ‘Brewed in Woolwich for W******’ and had the Arsenal logo on the front.

The Gunners slid to a disappointing defeat to Forest, which in turn helped the hosts survive in the Premier League.

Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal at the City Ground after being pushed through in the first half by Morgan Gibbs-White and converting past Aaron Ramsdale.

The result compounded a miserable run-in for the Gunners who were drawn against Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton before being beaten 4ā€“1 by Man City.

The City players held a waiting party in the team’s training hut and were seen celebrating wildly after the final whistle in Nottingham.
