Socceroos great Harry Kewell sees his coaching career take a HUGE hit as he is sacked by club after shocking video came to light

  • The great Socceroos won just 15 of his 33 games as manager
  • Kewell’s outbursts against the referees on match day were disallowed
  • A-League legend John Hutchinson could replace Kewell

Socceroos legend Harry Kewell’s coaching career has been dented after he was sacked by Japanese club Yokohama F. Marinos.

Kewell, 45, replaced compatriot Kevin Muscat as manager of the J1 League club in December but has won just 15 of the 33 games he has played as manager.

Kewell, a Premier League legend with Leeds United, reached the Asian Champions League final earlier this year but lost 6-3 over two legs to Al Ain.

The Yokohama Express has reported Kewell was thrown out of the dressing room for his ‘confusing’ instructions and the ‘lack of respect’ he showed towards his players.

Club officials in Yokohama are also said to find Kewell’s frequent outbursts towards match officials unacceptable.

Yokohama F. Marinos are the Japanese team that Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou led to the title in 2019. Just a month ago, Kewell’s team were booed by angry fans after losing to Tokyo Verdy in a league match. Kewell was so angry that he was captured on video being physically restrained and led away by staff.

Kewell previously held managerial positions in the English lower leagues at clubs including Crawley Town and Notts County, before moving to Scottish giants Celtic in 2022 as Aussie Ange.

The first-team manager was part of Brendan Rodgers’ coaching staff last season when Postecoglou took over at Spurs and worked closely with the club’s attackers, particularly Japanese winger Daizen Maeda.

He worked mainly in the United States before moving to Japan.

Meanwhile, Muscat’s move to China continues to pay off.

His side Shanghai Port currently lead arch-rivals Shanghai Shenhua at the top of the Chinese Super League by two points, having won their last five games.

One of Muscat’s key players is Brazilian midfielder Oscar, who joined the club from Premier League club Chelsea in 2017.

He reportedly earns $768,000 a week in China.
