Soccer Mommy wrote a love song for Stardew Valley’s Abigail for her new album
Sophie Allison, better known as indie pop artist Soccer Mommy, has a new album, Evergreen, comes out on October 25th. In anticipation of the release, Allison previously released a single: ‘Abigail’, a love song written for Stardew Valley‘s purple-haired, non-playable character.
“New song ‘Abigail’ is out now,” Allison posted on X. “Abigail is an ode to my Stardew Valley wife. I made this as a cute little writing exercise, but I loved it so much I wanted to put it on the record. I hope some of my fellow Stardew fans can relate to this!’
The three-minute single was released alongside the music video set Stardew Valleywith game footage of Allison’s character having a romance with Abigail. Obviously the song contains a lot of references to Stardew Valley and Abigail, who lives in the Pelican Town store with her parents. She also references the gifts that Abigail likes, such as chocolate cake, her flute playing, and how you can sometimes see her hanging out in the cemetery at night. This all plays out in the music video, which ends with Allison’s character getting married to Abigail.
The song itself is ethereal and dreamy, like so much of Soccer Mommy’s music. It is therefore not surprising that Allison releases a song that is about everything Stardew Valley — Soccer Mommy songs often reference video games. Her music video for “rom com 2004” features a Mii in a low-poly world, and the album art for Color theory is modeled after video game packaging. In 2022, she performed Roblox And recorded her song “Shotgun” in Simlish for The Sims4‘s High School Expansion Pack.
