Snoop Dogg will be an unlikely source of commentary for NBC at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, according to the American rapper and actor himself.

The 52-year-old Primetime Emmy Award winner, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. has been appointed as an analyst for the network, three years after he and comedian Kevin Hart provided only streaming commentary at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo on Peacock.

“I grew up watching the Olympic Games and am thrilled to see the incredible athletes bring their A-game to Paris,” Snoop Dogg said in a statement, posing in front of the Eiffel Tower as part of the announcement. “It's a celebration of skill, dedication and the pursuit of greatness.

“We're going to have some great competitions and of course I'm going to bring that Snoop style into the mix. It's going to be the most epic Olympics ever, so stay tuned and keep it locked.”

The 'Drop It Like It's Hot' and 'Gin and Juice' hitmaker appeared in a commercial for NBC's Olympic coverage featuring several American athletes during the Green Bay Packers' 33-10 win against the Minnesota Vikings on New Year's Eve.

The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris will take place on July 26, although this is subject to change.

Snoop Dogg's participation in commentary on Olympic coverage generated “tens of millions of views” for NBC in 2021, the network's executive producer and president of Olympic production Molly Solomon shared in a statement Variety.

“That performance alone landed Snoop a job as our special correspondent in Paris. We don't know what will happen each day, but we know he will bring his unique perspective to our reimagined Olympic primetime show.”

In December, Paris 2024 organizers admitted contingency plans were in place for the Olympic Games opening ceremony after French President Emmanuel Macron revealed the event could be moved from the River Seine in the event of a major security alert.

“Since we are professionals, there is of course a Plan B, Plan C and so on,” Macron said when asked whether increased security across Europe due to tensions in the Middle East would disrupt plans for the ceremony to take place as planned can thwart.

France raised its security threshold in October when a knife-wielding man killed a teacher at a school in northern France.

For New Year's Eve, the country's police increased security with 90,000 officers mobilized in Paris and elsewhere, with the efforts resulting in less disorder six months before the Olympic Games opening ceremony.
