Smite 2 is coming and won’t replace the original Smite

Hi Rez Studios and Titan Forge Games will release a sequel to To beatthe third-person MOBA first released in 2014 and has since attracted 40 million players, the companies announced Friday. Hits 2 brings an Unreal Engine 5-powered upgrade, promising full cross-play and cross-progression.

Hits 2‘s developers say the switch from To beat‘s Unreal Engine 3 from Epic Games’ latest game engine will give the sequel more “divine impact” – which means graphical upgrades and more dazzling effects. But Titan Forge and Hi Rez also promise gameplay improvements, including an updated UI and better matchmaking. Developers say that too Hits 2 will be built from the ground up with multiple control schemes in mind: keyboard and mouse, controller, and even SteamDeck.

The original To beat doesn’t go away. Titan Forge and Hi Rez say they plan to run the original as a standalone title, and that the game will “continue to receive regular updates and the servers will remain available for the foreseeable future.” But not all cosmetics To beat will transfer to Hits 2given the promise to bring 10 years of content to the sequel.

“There are currently more than 1,600 skins in stock To beatwith the exception of Mastery skins,” Titan Forge and Hi Rez said in one Frequently asked questions about the Hits 2 website. “To just transfer any skin to Hits 2 would require approximately 246 person-years of work. And we couldn’t both do that and make it Hits 2 as great as we knew it could be if we focused on a fresh start.”

An alpha playtest of Hits 2 is scheduled for the spring. To beat Fans interested in trying out the sequel can register to participate on the game’s official website.

Hits 2 will be playable on PlayStation 5, SteamDeck, Windows PC and Xbox Series X. Just like the original To beatit’s free to play.

The original To beat launched on PC in 2014 and has since been ported to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. That game features more than 130 playable gods from more than a dozen pantheons, but the playable roster also included guest appearances from painter Bob Ross, metal band Slipknot, and characters from Avatar: The last airbender And The Legend of Korra.
