Smiling Tom Cruise is pictured in London the day before daughter Suri’s 18th birthday as he focuses on filming after having ‘no part in her life’ for 11 years

Tom Cruise will not be celebrating her 18th birthday with his daughter Suri on Thursday, with the star pictured in London on Wednesday as he continues filming his latest Hollywood blockbuster.

The movie star, 61, flashed a big smile as he piloted a helicopter – one of his favorite modes of transport – to fly between the British countryside and London for filming on Mission Impossible 8.

His youngest child, daughter Suri, will celebrate her milestone birthday Thursday at home in New York, where she lives with her mother Katie Holmes.

However, Tom will not be joining the celebrations as he has been estranged from Suri since 2013, a year after he and Katie split.

The anniversary will also mark the end of Tom’s reported $400,000 per year child support payment to Katie under their divorce agreement.

The Top Gun actor’s last photo out and about with his daughter was a trip to Disneyland in 2012, the year his divorce from Katie was finalized.

At the time of their divorce, it was reported that Katie had chosen to end the couple’s marriage due to the fear of raising her daughter as a Scientologist – the religion to which Tom has been devoted for decades.

Her decision to give up religion, as well as marriage, caused a major rift between the former spouses, causing the relationship between Tom and Suri to become increasingly distant over the years.

Speaking exclusively to Dailymail.com last year, an insider explained that Tom ‘has no role in it [Suri’s] life’ – after it was previously revealed the pair haven’t seen each other for years.

According to their divorce documents, Tom agreed to pay Katie $400,000 per year until Suri turned 18 years old.

The documents also state that Tom agreed to pay all of Suri’s expenses, including “medical, dental, insurance, educational and other extracurricular expenses.”

Although his annual child support payments will stop, Tom can still be financially involved in Suri’s life as the divorce agreement would include the provision that he will pay the college tuition.

Last year it was reported that Suri hopes to study fashion in New York from September.

A source told Dailymail.com: “Suri is applying to schools everywhere. [Katie] really wants her to stay in New York so they can be close to each other.

‘Katie is very proud of her, but is also extremely overprotective.’

According to another insider, Katie hasn’t let Tom’s decision not to see Suri affect her parenting.

‘Raised by a single mother in New York has made Suri who she is. Katie has always put Suri first and Suri loves her mother more than anything,” the source told DailyMail.com.

“She’s a smart girl and she’s turning into a very intelligent, mature woman. She has a very close group of loyal friends and knows exactly where she comes from.’

As well as her love for fashion, Suri – whose wardrobe is reportedly worth $5 million – has also shown her talent for music, which she may also study during her studies.

In 2022, there was a trailer for a rom-com starring and directed by Katie, Alone Together, which featured Suri singing Blue Moon on the soundtrack, while her mother praised her daughter as “the best.”

While Suri is looking forward to her future career, Tom is still giving it his all. The Hollywood star has spent the past few weeks in Britain filming Mission Impossible 8

MI:8 was supposed to hit theaters this summer, but production had already been postponed due to the Hollywood writers’ strike

Katie spoke to Yahoo Entertainment about her decision to have Suri sing the two songs, telling the station, “I always want the highest level of talent.”

“So I asked her. She is very, very talented. She said she would do it and she recorded it, and I let her do her thing,” Katie said.

Katie also said she hired Suri to sing in another movie she directed called Rare Objects.

When Suri was just four years old, Katie told Elle that her daughter often commented on her clothes.

“Today I’m wearing brown suede pants and she said, ‘I don’t like your pants.’ But then she says, “You have to wear these shoes.” Or: ‘That’s so beautiful, Mom. Wear that.’ She has a good eye.’

During a 2020 interview with InStyle, Katie said Suri “came out very strong – she’s always been a strong personality.”

MI:8 was supposed to hit theaters this summer, but production had already been postponed due to the Hollywood writers’ strike.

Production on the eighth film was originally halted so the cast could promote part one, but then the strike began causing further delays.

Scenes for the eighth installment were shot in Derbyshire, Surrey and central London, at landmarks including the Natural History Museum in Kensington and Westminster Bridge.
