Small plane lands safely at Boston’s Logan airport with just one wheel deployed

BOSTON — A small plane landed safely at Boston’s Logan International Airport Tuesday afternoon despite having only one of its landing wheels extended.

The Cape Air Cessna 402 was carrying two passengers and one crew member. It had taken off from Logan and then returned, according to an official with Massport, which operates the airport, who said the plane “had a problem with the landing gear.”

There were no injuries. Video footage showed the plane entering the airport with only one wheel down and landing with one wing on the ground.

The plane was en route to Bar Harbor, Maine, when the pilot was notified shortly after takeoff of an “anomaly” with the landing gear, Cape Air said.

Cape Air said the pilot of Cape Air Flight 1833 “executed the appropriate checklist and landed the aircraft back at Boston Logan Airport.” The plane landed around 3:20 p.m.

No information was available at this time about the cause of the landing gear problem.
