An Aldi shopper is furious after opening a product they bought at the supermarket over the weekend.
The customer, who lives in Sydney, was shocked to find a second layer of plastic on the meat that had already been sealed.
They criticized the retailer for “taking a backward step” in reducing plastic waste after making massive changes to the store, including replacing plastic bags.

“The amount of plastic packaging felt excessive and didn’t seem to serve any additional purpose to protect the food. The plastic container seemed more than enough to me,” they said Yahoo.
Adding it seemed weird to put more than one layer of plastic over the pork cutlets as it should provide adequate protection.
Aldi has recently changed the packaging of its minced meat and put the meat in a bag to eliminate the extra waste from the containers.
Aldi now packs its 500 gram ground beef in bags instead of plastic containers. The change was made in an effort to reduce plastic and is being rolled out in meat aisles across Australia
It boasted 70 percent less waste on its packaging.

They said the perceived ‘extra layer of packaging’ is not the norm for the schnitzel.
“In an isolated incident, the layer of plastic that allows short-life products to be vacuum-sealed appears to have separated from the container during handling and appears as an additional layer of packaging, even though this is not the case,” said a spokesman. .
“There is no food safety issue or risk to the product being consumed. This does not meet our high quality standards and we are investigating how it could have happened and customers who are not completely satisfied with the product can return to the store for a full refund.”
It is not the first time that customers have been furious about the store’s plastic packaging.

In January, customers were outraged after seeing pre-cut watermelon in plastic containers lining refrigerator shelves.
Other people were not impressed with the product’s plastic packaging.
