Slack’s new feature wants you to swipe right on all those unread alerts
Slack has unveiled a new feature for its mobile app that it hopes will ensure you never miss an unread message or alert again.
Catch Up displays all your unread multi-channel Slack messages or DMs as a slideshow, giving you much more insight into what you may have missed.
Users can then swipe right or left (just like on an online dating app) to mark a message as unread or read, respectively.
Catch up for Slack
Slack says it sees Catch Up as a useful tool for employees starting their day, where they can quickly figure out which alerts are most urgent, and prepare their work schedule accordingly, but also for those ending the day, who may need to look by any warnings they may have missed.
This is especially useful on the Slack mobile app, where users can quickly glance at it while heading to the office, train station, car, or simply to a meeting.
Users can also long-press on particularly relevant unread messages to save them for later without clogging up their to-do list.
“Before they go to their desk in the morning, or when they’re not at their desk, or maybe at lunch – a 30-second session, super quick, just trying to catch up,” Akshay Bakshi, product management director at Slank, told The edge, who broke the news. “They leave the things they want to look at on their desktop for later.”
Bakshi also added that Slack is planning further developments for the app and Catch Up as a whole, including using AI for intelligent summarization and prioritization.
Catch Up is now available in the iOS and Android apps for Slack, with an iPad release planned soon, along with a rollout to users of the paid Slack app.
The release comes shortly after Slack unveiled a complete overhaul of its platform aimed at increasing productivity and making online collaboration easier than ever, including tweaks like easier navigation through messages, channels and conversations, as well as easier ways to use the tools find what you need. need.
