Sky Sports was left red-faced after Chelsea defender Axel Disasi was accidentally introduced on screen as Noni Madueke on Tuesday evening.

The pair were both on the scoresheet as the Blues beat Middlesbrough 6-1 at Stamford Bridge in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final to clinch their place at Wembley.

But when Disasi spoke to Sky Sports after the match, he was introduced as Madueke in an image on screen.

Madueke is four years younger than his Chelsea teammate, plays in a different role and is English, while Disasi is French.

Viewers immediately noticed the mistake and took to social media to report the glaring error.

‘This is a howler. Disasi’s name is Madueke,” a viewer posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“Sky Sports with a big mistake because that’s Axel Disasi, not Noni Madueke,” another added, while a third described the blunder as a “howler.”

A fourth commented: “Heaven sports shout Disasi Madueke. They’ve done it again.’

Disasi scored Chelsea’s third goal in the 6-1 defeat, converting Raheem Sterling’s cross at the far post after the Blues counter-attacked following a mistake by Middlesbrough centre-back Matt Clarke.

Earlier, Disasi and Sterling had combined for Enzo Fernandez’s goal as the hosts took the lead just 29 minutes into the second leg after the Argentine curled in the Frenchman’s cross.

Coming on as a half-time substitute for the ineffective Mykhailo Mudryk, Madueke completed the rout when he scored Chelsea’s sixth nine minutes from time, smashing the ball past Boro keeper Tom Glover, aided by a deflection off Rav Van der Berg.

Chelsea will now take on either Liverpool or Fulham at Wembley on February 25 and have the chance to win their first silverware in an otherwise largely forgettable season under Mauricio Pochettino.

“I’m desperate to win a trophy here,” the Blues boss said.

‘We have won three prizes in Paris (Saint-Germain) in a year and a half and we want to win here.

‘I’m desperate to win. That’s the headline.

‘It’s very important for us, we have Fulham or Liverpool, two great teams, it will be difficult. But now is the time to believe we can win.”
