Skull and Bones playtest kicks off today and here’s how to find out if you’re in
>
Skull and Bones has another playtest to spice up the game one last time before launch – and you could be a part of it too.
Ever since it was first announced at E3 2017, we’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of Skull and Bones. With its launch on November 8, select groups of players have already had some hands-on time thanks to the game’s Insider program and the Skull and Bones beta. The Insider program is exclusive to PC, but the beta is open to all platforms. And you might be on an invite to this weekend’s playtest.
The Skull and Bones playtest begins today, September 16, and went live in the early hours of the morning. It ends Sunday, September 18 at 7pm PT / 10pm ET, which is Monday, September 19 at 3am BST / 12pm AEST. If you want to participate, you need to do the following.
How to participate in the Skull and Bones play test
Sign Up
Unless you’ve cracked the secret to time travel, you may have already fallen at the first hurdle. And that was your interest register on the Skull and Bones live test site (opens in new tab). Of course, there is still time for more testing between now and November 8, but that is no guarantee. Twitter hot Tom Henderson say (opens in new tab) this playtest “is to help the developers ‘finish the game’.” And you can never have too much nail polish.
Check your email
If you’ve already registered and forgot everything, like I did, check your email! My inbox had an email from Skull and Bones with the subject “confirmation: technical test”. So search your own inbox to see if you’ve made the cut.
Accept the NDA
Before you can go to sea, you must sign an NDA. A strict NDA, the email says. Click through the link to find the NDA, read it and if that’s all good for you, go ahead and accept it! You also have the option to reconfirm or change your chosen platform if necessary. I registered for the PS5 Skull and Bones play test and it remembered my choice so it was all very easy.
Receive your download code
You can either wait for your code to arrive via email, or follow the link in your email again to find the code on the site. Then just redeem it in the storefront for your platform and wait for it to download. Once it’s done, you can get in.
Hopefully, the playtest will give you enough of an idea of what’s in store for you to decide whether to pick up Skull and Bones when it comes out in November. Of course, there is the price to consider.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has dropped the bomb that Skull and Bones – along with the publisher’s other triple-A titles – will cost $70. Speak with axios (opens in new tab)Guillemot said that “some games will be the same price as the competition. The big triple-A games will cost $70.”
Sony is currently being sued for beating similar prices for its games, although the circumstances are different. But if everyone jumps on the bandwagon, no matter how that case ends, we’ll pay higher prices anyway.
