Thousands of Skoda cars are being recalled due to a possible brake failure.
Skoda Superb and Octavia models sold between 2020 and 2024 are being recalled because the heat shield between the brake master cylinder and the exhaust may be incorrectly fitted.
As a result, it is possible that a connection to the brake fluid reservoir on the 3801 vehicles affected may melt.
This could cause brake fluid to leak and drivers may experience a reduction in braking performance, the recall warned.
The leak can also cause a vehicle fire.
“A reduction in braking performance and/or a vehicle fire may increase the risk of an accident that could cause serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users or bystanders, and/or damage property,” the federal transportation department said in its recall.
Additionally, Volkswagon Group Australia has also warned owners of Cupra Formentor and Leon vehicles built between 2020 and 2022 about the same issue.
These cars may also experience reduced braking performance and/or a vehicle fire may increase the risk of a crash resulting in serious injury or death.
Visit the federal government’s Vehicle Recalls website to see if your Skoda’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or your Cupra’s VIN is involved in either recall.
Owners can contact a Volkswagen dealer for free to make an appointment.
