Sixty is about thirty! How Demi Moore follows a strict raw vegan diet, practices yoga and has leech facials to look youthful in her seventh decade

Lounging on a yacht in a skimpy green bikini, Demi Moore looks just a fraction of her 60 years old.

In fact, it’s hard to believe that a seasoned actress is a grandmother in her seventh decade as she proudly flaunts her slim body on Instagram.

Demi from LA, who shares kids Rumer, 34, Scout, 32, and Tallulah, 29, with ex-husband Bruce Willis welcomed her first grandchild in April.

But that doesn’t stop Demi from staying young – even if she sometimes takes extreme measures for her youthful glow.

She has previously revealed how she uses leech facials to look young, as she is often pictured with her daughters leaving Pilates classes.

Leech facials

In 2008, Demi told American talk show host David Letterman, “I feel like I’ve always been someone who’s been looking for the very latest in things that optimize your health and healing.

“I was in Austria for a cleanse and part of the treatment was leech therapy. These aren’t just swamp leeches, though – we’re talking about highly trained medical leeches.

“These aren’t low-level scavengers — we’re talking high-level leeches.”

Leech therapy has a long history – ancient Egyptian doctors once considered them a panacea.

Today they are sometimes used in plastic and reconstructive surgery to help reattach severed body parts.

“They have a little enzyme that, when they bite you, is released into your blood and you generally bleed quite a bit — and your health is optimized.”

“It detoxifies your blood — I feel very detoxified right now.”

“I did it in a woman’s house lying on her bed. We did a little sampler first, which is in the navel.

Obsession with exercise

Demi was obsessed with exercise in her twenties and thirties when she looked sensational with roles in Ghost, Charlie’s Angels and Indecent Proposal.

In her memoir Inside Out, she said that throughout the 1990s she felt she “couldn’t stop exercising.”

The craze started in 1992 when she was cast opposite Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson in the military courtroom drama A Few Good Men.

Demi, who had already made a name for herself in the films St Elmo’s Fire and About Last Night with Rob Lowe, wanted to look her best in the uniform she had to wear.

“Getting in shape for that movie kicked off the obsession with working out that would consume me for the next five years. I never dared to give up.’

But when she was filming A Few Good Men, she had just welcomed her daughter Scout and wanting to lose the baby weight fast, she hit the gym hard.

The former Brat Packer began “exercising excessively,” and her regimen reportedly included running ten miles every day, long-distance cycling, and lifting weights for up to two hours daily.

But she got so slim that she “didn’t have enough fat in her breast milk.”

Demi was told to go child formula and although the cover girl was “crushed,” she didn’t slow down the practice as the star felt her roles required her to adhere to the regimen.

The next movie was Indecent Proposal – with Robert Redford and Woody Harrelson.

Robert’s character pays $1 million to sleep with the Demi’s character – and this meant she felt the pressure to look like a supermodel.

Demi Moore stunned fans earlier this year after posing at age 60 in a tiny cheetah-print thong bikini — and the snaps left many wondering how she achieves such an enviable physique

“I’d be on display again and all I could think about was my body, my body, my body,” she said.

“I doubled up on my already over-the-top workout routine. I cut carbs, I ran and I biked and I trained on every machine imaginable.”

Again, with Striptease in 1996, Demi’s character had to work a stripper pole.

“When I was making Striptease, I would measure out half a cup of oatmeal for breakfast and prepare it with water, and for the rest of the day I would have just protein and some veggies — and that was it,” she said.

“If all this obsessing over my body sounds crazy to you, you’re not wrong: eating disorders are crazy, it’s a disease.” But that doesn’t make them any less real.’

Yoga teacher training

In her 40s, the on-screen star decided it was time to slow down and turned her attention to more low-impact workouts while still maintaining an active lifestyle.

Demi revealed in 2010 that she had started Bikram yoga, which has been proven to “improve lower body strength, lower and upper body range of motion, and balance in healthy adults,” according to the National Library of Medicine.

Her then-trainer Gregory Joujon-Roche confirmed to InStyle at the time that the star had fully committed to the workout and added a mix of strength training as well.

But not content with simply joining in, it was confirmed a few years later that Demi herself had become a verified Kundalini Yoga teacher – with a focus on raising individual awareness through breathing techniques and physical postures.

At age 47, the actress spoke to Elle to reveal she was finally happy with her body.

She told the publication, “I had an extreme obsession with my body. I made it a measure of my own worth.

“I tried to dominate it, which I did, and I changed it several times. But it never lasted and in the end it brought me nothing but temporary happiness.

Does being thin solve anything? No. The irony is that when I let go of the desire to dominate my body, it actually became the body I’d always wanted.

“But it didn’t happen until I stopped trying to control it. In the end, this kind of obsession is pointless and pointless.”

Break from sports

Demi actually took a four-year hiatus then and later returned via virtual dance cardio classes with “The Mirror.”

The device allows users to work out in the comfort of their own homes and take classes that provide personalized instruction.

In May 2019, she uploaded a video explaining, “I haven’t worked out in over four years,” before telling followers to wish her luck.

Raw vegan diet

The now 60-year-old star too also takes care of what she puts in her body.

She follows a strict raw vegan diet, which means she eats alone raw plant foods that can be consumed without cooking.

Proponents argue that ingredients can lose important nutrients and enzymes during the cooking process — and having raw plant foods will improve energy levels, prevent disease and promote overall health.

She’s not the only celebrity face to sign up for the diet with others, including Gwyneth Paltrow, following suit.

But it comes with a word of caution from Dr. Laura Brown, an associate professor of nutrition at Teesside University, who warned that the diet could do more harm than good if followed for long periods of time.

On The conversation website, she said some vegetables actually contain more nutrients when cooked, as the process helps break down cell walls and release nutrients.

Sobriety

Nevertheless, the raw vegan diet seems to be working for Demi, who is also one of the celebrities who has turned her back on alcohol.

In her memoir, she revealed that she broke a 20-year sobriety with a beer after ex-husband Ashton Kutcher told her he doubted the existence of alcoholism.

But despite a brief setback, he has embraced sobriety again.
