A seven-year-old girl fights for her life after being shot alongside four women at the double funeral of a single mother and her 20-year-old British-Colombian cancer victim daughter in north London.

Unidentified assailants staged a brazen daylight shootout outside St Aloysius Church on Phoenix Road, opposite Euston railway station, at 1:30pm today.

The victims were attending the funeral of Fresia Calderón, 50, and her daughter, Sara Sánchez, 20, who died within a month of each other in November.

Met Police confirmed tonight that six people in total were injured in the attack; four women ages 21, 48, 54, and 41, along with two children ages 12 and seven.

The seven-year-old girl “remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition” after she was rushed to a hospital with a major trauma center as a priority.

The 12-year-old girl was released from the hospital after receiving treatment for a minor leg injury sustained in the incident.

The adult victims, aged 48, 54 and 41, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, although police said the 48-year-old man suffered trauma that could be “life-changing”. A condition report is pending on the 21-year-old woman.

It is not yet clear how the victims knew about the mother-daughter duo whose funerals they were attending, or why the funeral service was conducted.

Fresia Calderón died after suffering a pulmonary embolism after arriving at Heathrow from Colombia on November 5.

His daughter Sara Sánchez, who had been diagnosed with leukemia three years ago, died 25 days later after “losing all hope,” according to a relative.

When emergency services arrived on the scene this afternoon, they found the four victims with gunshot wounds in a small side street near Euston station.

Detectives have been on the scene since Saturday night as investigations begin.

Now they are appealing for witnesses to come forward to help in the investigation.

Superintendent Ed Wells said: “Any shooting incident is unacceptable, but for multiple people, including two children, to be injured in a shooting in the middle of a Saturday afternoon is shocking.”

‘Our thoughts are with all the victims, but in particular with the seven-year-old girl who is in a life-threatening condition and with her family.

“An investigation into this terrible attack involving local officers and specialized detectives is already underway. I can assure the communities of Camden and beyond that we will do everything possible to identify and bring to justice those responsible.

“Local residents can expect to see an increased visible police presence in the area over the weekend and in the coming days as we move forward with this investigation.”

Father Jeremy Trood, from St Aloysius Church, said: “I heard a big bang and the police are in the church right now.” The people who were leaving the church have come running back.

Labor leader Keir Starmer issued a tribute to the victims on Twitter tonight, declaring: “I am deeply shocked by the Euston shooting and want to thank the emergency services for their response.” My thoughts are with the victims.

And London Mayor Sadiq Khan also spoke out about the “deeply distressing” attacks.

Khan said: ‘This is a deeply distressing incident and my thoughts are with the injured and their families.

“A police investigation is ongoing and I am in close contact with the Metropolitan Police to determine what happened.”

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: “We sent three ambulance teams, five paramedics in rapid response cars, one advance paramedic and two incident response officers to the scene.

We also send the London Air Ambulance. The first paramedic arrived in about five minutes.
