What’s going on? Fallout season 2? Six months after Amazon’s TV adaptation of Bethesda’s beloved video game franchise broke records on Prime Video, it seems everyone remains in the dark about its development – including the lead actors.
Speak with DiscussFilmElla Purnell, who plays Lucy MacLean in the hugely successful Prime Video series, admitted she “knows nothing” about the status of the show’s next installment. So it doesn’t sound like progress is happening as quickly as Amazon executives have claimed in the past.
“I’m excited,” Purnell replied when asked about Season 2. “I really can’t wait (but) I don’t have anything – I don’t know when we’re going to do it, I don’t have a script, I literally don’t have anything.
“I don’t even know if I’m in it,” she added jokingly. “I hope I’m in it. I think I’m in it. I’m probably in it. But no, I don’t know anything. I’m excited, I really want to get started. I have to start. Practice my accent one more time and getting back into Lucy’s headspace.”
Apocalypse (not) now
Purnell’s comments do not inspire confidence in an imminent return to the world of Fallout – at least from a production perspective – but it seems strange that Amazon hasn’t informed its cast about when filming can begin. It’s even more curious when you take into account comments from Amazon officials since season 1 of it Fallout The TV show emerged from the vault and, as I said, took the world by storm in April.
Speak with Variety in July, Prime Video’s head of TV Vernon Sanders said “we already have scripts in hand” — a pleasant update that came 24 hours after Amazon told MGM Studios chief Jennifer Salke Term: “We have a plan that we’re going to start working on very soon. I can’t tell you an exact date, but I think everyone will be happy with how quickly we can come back with Season 2.”
If, as the pair suggest, script work is complete and principal photography will start sooner or later, wouldn’t they have told Purnell and company when work on the second season of one of Prime Video’s best shows will begin? ? Okay, script rewrites and/or treatments are usually necessary to improve quality. Additionally, the volatile nature of the entertainment industry means that a studio’s best-laid plans can change at the last minute. A production as big as Fallout needs cast and crew schedules to align perfectly before filming can begin. Other important details, such as obtaining permits to shoot in certain locations, purchasing equipment, and securing a months-long shooting schedule, also need to be arranged before work can begin.
Regardless of the fact that Purnell doesn’t know how far along we are Fallout Season 2 is in development territory, but that doesn’t mean progress has come to a standstill. So as desperate as I am to see what happens next, I’m happy to wait if that’s what it means FalloutThe returns from one of the world’s best streaming services are just as good, if not better, than its debut.
That said, I’d be surprised if Fallout‘s second season will be released before the end of 2026, which means we’ll have a long wait if my prediction comes true.
