Sister of Kerem Aydin breaks silence after he was charged with murder of Dr Michael Yung

The devastated sister of a young father accused of killing a hero surgeon has broken down in tears as she expressed her condolences for the alleged victim and his loved ones.

Breanna Wright, 24, told Ny Breaking Australia she heard her younger brother Kerem Aydin, 22, and his partner Jacinta Davila, 27, were Dr. Michael Yung after scrolling through a news article on Facebook.

Dr. Yung died in hospital on Tuesday – just over 24 hours after the young couple allegedly fatally attacked him during a botched home invasion at his $2 million property in Gilberton, north Adelaide.

Ms Wright said her heart immediately broke for the former intensive care pediatrician and his family.

“I was devastated,” Ms Wright said, breaking down in tears.

'I cried for him. He was such a good person.'

Although not directly related by blood, Ms Wright grew up with Aydin in a large mixed family in Murray Bridge, a rural town 78km south-east of Adelaide.

Her two older half-siblings, with whom she shares a biological father, have the same biological mother as Aydin.

Mrs Wright said Aydin grew up as a “loving brother” but he was always a bit of an odd one out between her and her other siblings.

He had a difficult childhood, she said, and his father — who is currently in prison — was absent from his life.

Ms Wright said she was shocked when confronted with the allegations, with her equally astounded siblings then sharing the news article with each other in a group chat.

Although she has not spoken to Aydin's mother, she says her siblings are doing well given the circumstances.

Ms Wright said she last saw Aydin in person at their sister's wedding in 2021 and he seemed in good spirits.

She last spoke to him in 2022, when she turned down his and Davila's offer to move in with them.

“It (the allegations) is so embarrassing,” Ms Wright said.

Aydin and Davila have had a whirlwind relationship over the past 18 months after falling pregnant during a one-night stand, welcoming a young daughter and later getting engaged.

Earlier this week, Ny Breaking Australia revealed the couple were evicted from their last home in August for failing to pay rent before moving to their most recent home in Thebarton, inland Adelaide.

Police are investigating whether Aydin and Davila died in the early hours of Monday. Yung broke in to steal one of his family's BMWs.

Police will allege that the couple entered the home through a second-floor window before Dr. Yung was reportedly fatally attacked during a scuffle.

Dr. Yung was the former head of the pediatric intensive care unit at Women's and Children's Hospital, had practiced medicine for almost four decades and was a beloved member of the local community.

He regularly took part in charity events and in 2020 established a foundation – named after his late wife, Kathryn Browne-Yung – that offered scholarships to Indigenous medical students.

Police allege the couple fatally assaulted Dr Yung during a home invasion at his $2million Gilberton home (pictured) in the early hours of Monday.

Since his death, countless South Australian families have shared online tributes and stories of how he saved their child's life.

Detectives arrested his accused killers at Torrensville Plaza on Tuesday evening after they were allegedly caught stealing medical supplies and other items from a nearby supermarket and pharmacy.

Police will allege they took the first aid equipment to a nearby public toilet, where Davila used it to treat her fiancé's wounds.

The pair, who have been charged with murder, aggravated serious criminal offense and committing robbery with violence, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrate Court on Wednesday, bruised, bandaged and sobbing.

Aydin, who wore a bandage over his bruised and swollen left eye, did not apply for bail.

Davila, who cried during her appearance, will return to court next Wednesday, where a judge will consider releasing her on bail.

The pair are due back in court in March for a hearing on the charges.
