L&G boss Sir Nigel Wilson sees his total pay since becoming the company’s chief exec hit £40.8m after pocketing £4m last year
Legal & General boss Sir Nigel Wilson was paid £4 million last year, bringing his total salary since becoming CEO to £40.8 million.
The boss of the insurance and wealth management giant, who announced plans to retire in January, has put in a steady performance since taking the helm in 2012.
The shares are up 90 percent since he took over, compared to a 36 percent gain for the FTSE 100 index.

His salary for 2022 was a slight drop from the £4.5 million package in 2021, but he still lands comfortably among Britain’s highest paid bosses.
The 66-year-old joined the company in 2009 as chief financial officer. Under him, assets under management rose to £1.2 trillion and the group led investments in areas such as housing, infrastructure and science parks.
An avid athlete who grew up on a council estate in County Durham, Wilson has advocated “inclusive capitalism”, delivering returns for investors while making investments that help fight inequality.
The father of five has served on business advisory boards and was knighted last year. He turned down an offer to serve as Secretary of Investments under Liz Truss.
