Sir Lenny Henry beamed as he attended the inaugural Sky Arts Awards with his partner Lisa Makin to present the Lifetime Achievement gong.

The 66-year-old comedian attended the ceremony at Camden’s Roundhouse on Tuesday to pay tribute to radio legend Melvyn Bragg.

Lenny looked dapper in a green velvet suit and black shirt for the occasion, where he was joined by a host of celebrities.

Meanwhile, Lisa, a casting director for Broadway, looked glamorous in an oversized white suit with a glittering black knit blouse and matching scarf.

Melvyn, 84, gave an emotional speech as he accepted the top award from Lenny and the Sky Arts judges, saying: “I’ve got to sit down now or I’m going to burst into tears.”

“To be honest, I’m overwhelmed, that’s what I am,” Melvyn said. “It’s been nothing, nothing, nothing but a pleasure. Nothing. I couldn’t have dreamed of a life that was so fulfilling.

‘When I was younger, I never would have dreamed that there would be so many artists, from so many different cultures, in one room, together, presenting themselves as one of the great forces and one of the great bloomers of this country, and that is you.

“So thank you, all of you very much. Now I’m going to sit down before I burst into tears.”

Tuesday’s ceremony saw some great performances, including a rendition of their hit I Believe In A Thing Called Love by The Darkness. Joining them on stage was Jim Moir, aka Vic Reeves.

Earlier in the show, Slash and Brian Johnson performed together, after which Joe Lycett donned some unusual outfits as the show’s host.

The audience also enjoyed a performance by Welsh songwriter and rapper Rem, who went viral for his politically charged and powerful lyrics, and a dance number by award-winning group Boy Blue. Opera and pop music were also featured.

Myleene Klass, Carol Vorderman and Anita Rani provided a glamorous awards ceremony on the red carpet.

The ceremony, hosted by comedian Joe Lycett, was attended by a number of television personalities who walked the pink carpet at The Roundhouse.

Carol’s appearance comes after she fiercely criticized her patients, claiming that “everyone on TV” had had it done.

The presenter told how she has a ‘no f***s given’ approach to getting older, while opening up about the criticism she often receives about her appearance.

She said about her aging: ‘Everyone on TV has Botox. I look the way I do because it makes me happy.

“But you get to a point in life where it doesn’t give a f*** anymore. I love what David Bowie said about getting older: ‘You become the person you were always meant to be.’

“My sixties are the age I should have always been. The abuse I get is outrageous, but I don’t give a damn. In fact, it drives me on.”

She also shared that she has never had breast augmentation, but that she went up three cup sizes during menopause.
